Manoa Falls

Remember last week, I talked about my great excitement for a hiking adventure? I finally had one! Saturday my family hiked to Manoa Falls. It was absolutely amazing! Not only was the trail fun, but the scenery kept us in awe the entire way. Our Creator is pretty artistic!

Below, I did my best to capture some of the beauty so I could share it with you. Enjoy!

Black Essentials

FullSizeRender(34)I love black clothing. Don’t get me wrong, there are lots of items in color that I’m attracted to also, but for some reason, I can’t get enough of black. With that being said, I want to share with you 2 black articles of clothing that have become essential to me.

Earlier this year, I came across Cotton Citizen clothing. I immediately started to fall in love with everything they had, and I’d never even tried it on. It seemed that the wisest decision for me to make would be to get a basic (vintage) black V neck. I knew it would go with everything. The moral of this story is, it’s now my favorite shirt that I own, and I wear it all the time.  If you are looking for a favorite tee, look no further than this site. And hey, all their stuff is made in the USA!

The shorts I’m wearing are the best fitting and most flattering cut shorts I’ve ever found. They have been my summer go-to for my bottom half since they basically look great with everything.

I love these pieces together, and they obviously mix and match well with so many other options. Do yourself a favor and get some essentials of your own! What do you think?

Love my Midi

The midi dress has been such a staple through this season. You can pair it with anything. Flats, heels, sneakers, sandals…you get the picture. Because of the versatility of this dress, it’s quickly become one of my favorite pieces.

(Not to rub it in, but) As we head into fall, I will be able to continue wearing this dress as is, while still playing with different accessories. For those living on the mainland, or in areas that the temperature will significantly drop in the fall, the midi can be paired with sweaters, scarves, and jackets.

Moving on to these sandals that I’m wearing…if there was ever a comfortable and equally cute pair of sandals that I would recommend, it would be these. I’ve actually been craving a pair for quite some time and my sweet brother surprised me by sending me these in the mail. The sole of the shoe is made out of actual yoga mat. How cool is that?! There are so many different colors and styles of them. I think I’d like another 10 pairs!

Lastly, this fun pineapple hat I’m wearing, I got when I participated in the Color Run in Seattle back in May. It’s a nice piece of Hawaiian flare, and it does a fantastic job of hiding my ghastly outgrowth! You can be sure I’ll probably be rocking a hat or headband of sorts for the next two weeks, until I get my hair colored again. That’s another surprise I can hardly wait for!

Top Hair Looks for Fall/Winter 2015

It seems crazy that fall is just around the corner, but alas, it is. The main excitement that fall brings to me along with the rest of the fashion world, are all of the quickly approaching fashion weeks. In honor of the new season upon us, I wanted to do a recap of some of my favorite hair that I styled in March for Vancouver Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2015

The first three looks are definitely the most wearable, but I find the forth so beautiful as well. Much of the hair was very easy and effortless such as tousled waves and ponytails, as well as the bohemian look with the head chain. Then there were a few sculpted looks such as the victory rolls and chic buns.

I used Matrix Style Link on all the models I styled. It really is such an easy to use product that is not only great for stylists, but fantastic for clients as well.

What is your favorite look? Let me know in the comments below!

Makaha Beach

Last Saturday, my husband and I decided to take the kids on a little adventure to check out a beach on the island that we hadn’t been to yet. He suggested that we check out Makaha Beach, so on the bus for an hour and forty minute ride we went.

Once there, we were pretty excited about the wave action. There were some more intense areas for surfing and body boarding, while further down the beach it was a bit more kid friendly. The current was decently strong, so when my husband swam out to catch some of the bigger waves, I had to keep an eye on the girls. They had so much fun though. Getting thrashed by the waves seems to bring them quite a bit of excitement!

The surrounding area of the beach was pretty run down looking. (If anyone reading this is from Eastern Washington, think Toppenish….maybe not even that fancy.) It wasn’t exactly somewhere I would want to live, but the beach was fun!

What are some of your favorite beaches? Let me know in the comments below!

Wanna Hike?

Since living on Oahu, I have not gone on any hikes. It’s tragic, I know. Even my girls got to go on a hike up Diamond Head, so it’s time I get with the program!

I’ve made myself a small list of some hikes I would like to accomplish before the year is over, and I want to share them with you. When I complete them, I’ll let you know.

This first photo is of Koko Head Crater. Unless I plan to go solo on this hike, I’m going to have to wait until November, when my mom comes to visit me, to go on this adventure. I know my girls would be whining at least half of the way and my husband doesn’t seem to keen on the idea of all these stairs. I can hardly wait!

The next three places on my list will be great for my whole family. We’re actually planning an adventure for next weekend.  Stay tuned for where we end up!

Around the World

Yesterday was Statehood Day here in Hawaii. The girls had the day off school and my husband had the day of work, so we decided to head over to Kailua Beach for a family day.

The outfit I wore to the beach was a bit international. These fancy wrap pants you see, my brother-in-law got for me in Thailand, and my turquoise bracelet is a gift my mom brought me back from Mexico. If you love these pieces, I guess you’ll have no choice but to do some international travel!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Surf Vibes

My whole life there is one hobby that I’ve wanted to try. Surfing. Now, one might ask me why I never just went ahead and tried it, and I would respond with, “I was raised in the PNW and am a freak about cold water.” Now however, I am blessed to live in a warm climate with water that’s just to my liking.

This last Saturday, I took my first paddle out on the board. I’m already obsessed. Do you see that little dot out on the water?  That’s me 🙂 Hopefully next time you see a photo of me on a surfboard, you’ll be able to make out my features! I love the shot I got of my husband finishing up a run. Perhaps I should take up photography as well!

It’s safe to say that my family is now in surf mode, and we can’t wait to work on our skills! You can follow my surfboard board on Pinterest if you’d like to stay caught up with my inspiration. Below are a few of my faves.

Happy hump day! I’m excited to share today’s look with you!

First, let me just tell you that the wedges I’m wearing are on clearance. Cleaaarrrannce. If you love ’em, I highly recommend that you hightail it over to the link I shared so you can snag yourself a pair!

Next, these vintage cutoffs I’m wearing are made by Feather and Skull, a Seattle designer I had the pleasure of meeting a few months back. I actually wore them for a show that I walked in, and I fell so in love with them that I had to purchase them from her right then and there! Go check out her site. It’s worth it!

Finally, let’s talk about my hair. I’ve had a short bob for about 5 months now, and I’m so looking forward to it being long enough to put into a bun again! For now however, I have to get creative. It’s been very hot and humid here on the island. If my hair is not pulled back away from my face, I start freaking out! By putting my hair into several twists, it ensures that all the short pieces stay back out of my face. The way I did it is very similar to the way you would do a french braid, but instead of three strands, it’s only two. Whether your hair is long or short, it’s a fun alternative to a braid!

What do you think of my look? Tell me in the comments below!

Watermelon Crawl

August is always a busy month for me. On top of summertime festivities and back-to-school shopping, both of my girls’ birthdays are six days apart. I love it though! It’s party central at my house.

This last weekend, as part of their celebration, we went to the Honolulu Zoo. The animals were so beautiful! We brought our neighbor girl along for an added companion, which the girls were excited about.

Our day finished at Waikiki Beach, where my husband had his first successful surf run. I took a turn paddling out on the board, but unfortunately I didn’t catch any waves. I’m determined to next time!

This watermelon belt bag I’m wearing is my new obsession. I purchased it locally from Homecoming Honolulu. It’s so fun to wear! What do you think?
