Just a little magic and a bit of sparkle for your weekend <3
“All it takes is faith and trust…and a little bit of pixie dust. Now, think of the happiest things. It’s the same as having wings!”
It’s been just over a week now that I was in San Francisco for the Salon Centric LIVE hair show. I flew into the city early and was able to complete my audition to be a certified Matrix team member. I’m thrilled to say that I passed and I’m officially part of the team!
The Matrix team did an amazing job and the show went as smooth as can be. Nicholas French, Lenny Strand, and Hope Brooks had an incredible stage presence and had the audience completely captivated. It was inspiring, hearing the crowd go from laughter to “ooohs” and “ahhhs” when something clicked that they could take away with them.
I got to style the pixelated wig that Lenny colored for the event, and then I got to model it. I was really wishing the look was a bit more permanent because I loved it!
I hope you enjoy all of the behind the scene photos of the show. I’m so blessed to be part of such an incredible team.
My girls got out of school 2 weeks ago and they have been begging me to color their hair pink and purple. I told them that I’d do it in June if they were good for the rest of the school year, and they could have it for summer. They kept their end of the deal, so it was time for me to deliver.
Now, even though I’m a hair stylist, I have a personal conviction to keep my kids “kids”as long as possible. They have the rest of their lives to be grown ups, so I’ve been against altering their hair until they are teenagers at least! But thanks to Matrix, there is a product to meet both our needs.
Color Graphic Lacquers come in 8 different shades and are a true semi permanent hair color, lasting about 12 shampoos. If you use these colors over pre lightened hair, you will get much more intensity. However, I did not want to do anything permanent to my girls’ hair, so I put the color onto their virgin hair.
I mixed magenta and light pink for this look above and I think it turned out so pretty! I love how her sun kissed pieces have now become pretty pink highlights! By the time school starts again, she’ll be back to herself. I say that’s a win win 🙂
Growing your hair out. I think it’s safe to say that most girls have gone through this dreadful process at least once in their lives. You get an adorable pixie or short bob and everything is all fine and dandy until you decide that once again want long flowing locks.
The good news for you is I am a pro when it comes to going from short to long, as I have done it numerous times, and I’m going to tell you how you can do it without going bored out of your mind!
While your hair is growing, it can get really boring looking at the exact same shape every single day. By playing with different braids, ponytails, buns, and twists, you’ll be able to bring your creative side out and help pass the time.
Tired of having dishwater brown hair? Add some light pieces! Feel like you need more depth? Richen up that color! If you’re a blonde already and you’re feeling bold, why not put a temporary vivid color over the top? With color you feel good about, it will make having that in-between length hair so much better. Just make sure not to make too drastic of a color choice that you would want to change again soon. Coloring your hair too much can result in enough damage that you’ll end up having to cut what you just grew!
3. Add bangs.
This one has been a life saver for me on more than one occasion. For those of you that are obsessed with cutting your hair but are desperately trying not to touch the length or again if you’re just bored out of your mind, bangs give a completely different look to any style. And the best part is you can decide how aggressive you want to be with them. Long, short, heavy, blunt, piecey, there are so many options!
4. Have an inspiration board.
This is key for those moments you’re weak. Your friend just got a really cute cut, or your favorite celebrity just chopped her hair. It’s hair and it grows. I’m not going to stop you if you want to change your mind. BUT if you’re really trying to commit yourself, having a board to refer to just might be the reminder you need that long braids, ponys, and beachy waves can soon be yours.
5. Play with your makeup and wardrobe.
One of my favorite things about hair is that by changing it, you can completely transform your look. So what do you do when you can’t change it? Switch up your makeup and your clothes. Wearing fun mascara or a bold lip can more than distract from blah hair! Clothing too! Go more bold with your style. Try a new look you’ve been dying try. You’ll be surprised that by making that extra effort to dress up your face and wardrobe, your hair is ok taking the backseat for the moment.

March is here! Sure it started a few days ago, but it’s my first post this month and my birthday is in 2 days! Let’s get celebrating, shall we?
Being that my birthstone is aquamarine and I’m a water sign, it’s no wonder that I’m drawn to the color blue. These photos of blue tresses make my heart skip a beat, and I don’t want to keep them all to myself. I hope you love them as much as I do!
Would you color your hair blue?
Rose gold is such a fun trend in hair color right now. One of my New Year’s resolutions to myself is that I will not color my hair this entire year! Does anyone realize how incredibly difficult this will be for me? I’ve already made it for 3 months, and there are still 10 months left in 2016. *Speaking to myself* Don’t stress out!
Since I’m swearing off color for myself this year, I’m dying to make someone’s hair this color! I’m having some company in a few weeks and I plan on sneaking it on them. I can’t wait to see how it turns out! I’ll be sure to share the before and after photos with you, but in the mean time, here’s a little rose gold color inspo for your viewing pleasure 😉

someone once told me to always live for the little things in life. live for 5am sunrises and 5pm sunsets where you’ll see colours in the sky that don’t usually belong. live for road trips and bike rides with music in your ears and the wind in your hair. live for days when you’re surrounded by your favourite people who make you realize that the world is not a cold, harsh place. live for the little things because they will make you realize that this is what life is about, this is what it means to be alive. -unknown
Be alive this weekend <3
Hi lovelies! Today I want to share a little hair inspo with you!
Last month, I may have alluded greatly to the fact that I was obsessed with Here Leger’s Spring/Summer 2016 show. The hair for the show was definitely at the top of my list from all that I saw. I just simply adored it!
Using my daughter as my muse, I’m going to show you a little step by step of how to recreate this look for yourself! It’s a piece of cake!
Start with a deep side part and texture in the hair. My daughter has natural curl and I chose to leave that texture in her hair for the style.
As you work your way around the side of the head, make sure that you leave out some wispy bits around the hairline. You want it to look soft and airy, not overly done.
Isn’t it beautiful?! I can’t wait until my hair is long enough to do this to! Until then, I’ll just have to play with my daughter’s hair! What do you think?
Please indulge in some of my inspiration from NYFW. I hope you enjoy!

It seems crazy that fall is just around the corner, but alas, it is. The main excitement that fall brings to me along with the rest of the fashion world, are all of the quickly approaching fashion weeks. In honor of the new season upon us, I wanted to do a recap of some of my favorite hair that I styled in March for Vancouver Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2015
The first three looks are definitely the most wearable, but I find the forth so beautiful as well. Much of the hair was very easy and effortless such as tousled waves and ponytails, as well as the bohemian look with the head chain. Then there were a few sculpted looks such as the victory rolls and chic buns.
I used Matrix Style Link on all the models I styled. It really is such an easy to use product that is not only great for stylists, but fantastic for clients as well.
What is your favorite look? Let me know in the comments below!
All photographs are mine except for the blonde at the top. All hair by me. First photograph is by John Yoo.
