A Little Shaggy

Happy Humpday! It’s been a while since my last post, but as promised, I’m revealing the changes I made to my hair. It’s nothing drastic, but it’s just enough to keep me powering through this “boring” stage of my hair.

I mentioned earlier in the year that one of my goals for 2016 is to not color my hair for the entire year. The last time I colored it was November of last year, so I’m currently 5 months color-free. I’ve definitely had some urges, but I’ve managed to push through them. My reason for doing this boils down to the fact that I have darkened and lightened my hair so many times throughout the past 18 years and through my elementary years I had a perm (thanks mom!). Basically I haven’t had virgin hair since I was 2! I just want to give my poor head a rest. Don’t worry though. I’ll be back at it again in 2017!

On top of eliminating color this year, I’m trying to grow my hair long again. It’s torture really. So when I began to be inspired by all the 70’s shags I was seeing, I decided I wanted in.

My face is now framed with shaggy layers. Not too shaggy, just a little. I slightly layered the sides and back of my hair also. As my hair continues to grow out, I think I’ll continue to keep the pieces around my face shorter. Not only do I like it, but it’ll give me something to do while I wait for Rapunzel locks.

2016 hair styles all have one thing in common: TEXTURE. Whether your hair is long or short, texture is where it’s at.  Most of the cuts you’re seeing have textured piecey layers, framing, or bangs. But even for the blunt lobs that are out there, tousled waves are keeping them with the trend.

There is also a big 70’s influence in hair right now which I’m loving. Middle parts and shaggy layers are very prominent.  I’ve been playing with a middle part again now that my hair has gotten longer, and I even did a little cutting on myself over the weekend! I’ll be sure to share my updated hair with you soon!

Which of these cuts is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below! I may even have the chance to make some of you over!
